This is the ultimate masterpiece from the Italian manufacturer: the Ferrari F40. Now considered a true legend, the F40 commands astronomical prices. An exceptional car that our team has had the privilege of admiring on several occasions, as some clients have commissioned bespoke garages specifically designed for this spectacular vehicle. A look back at the most powerful and famous car from the Scuderia.

Ferrari F40: one of the brand's most legendary models
To celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary, Enzo Ferrari wanted to create an exceptional model. However, the discontinuation of Group B in rallying was a real blow for the Italian manufacturer. Group B was introduced in 1982 by the FIA. Its purpose was to replace Groups 4 and 5 for sports cars. It stipulated that customer cars had to be produced in 200 units within 12 months to be homologated. Beyond that, the manufacturer could design an "evolution" version, limited to 20 units, intended for racing and competition. But Group B ended just after the homologation of the 288 GTO. This was a major disappointment for the Italian manufacturer, as it jeopardized the development of this model!
With his days numbered, Enzo Ferrari decided to produce a legendary vehicle. It would be specifically designed for the road, but would incorporate technology derived from Formula 1. He conceived the F40: the culmination of a dream, an extraordinary racing car that became the lightest and highest-performing sports car of all time.
A super-powerful engine, extraordinary performance
For his new masterpiece, Enzo Ferrari wanted the turbocharged V8 engine from the 288 GTO installed. But that wasn't all. His thirst for power led the Italian manufacturer to equip the engine with two additional turbochargers. The engine thus went from 400 to 478 horsepower, while maintaining its exceptional lightness. A promising combination for outstanding performance!
To increase the power-to-weight ratio, Enzo Ferrari equipped his supercar with an ultra-lightweight body made of carbon-Kevlar panels. Inside, there were no frills, the goal being to save weight. The Italian manufacturer chose to install only the essentials, admittedly at the expense of some comfort. No radio or electric windows. No floor mats or glove box. The interior was stripped down to the bare minimum. Nevertheless, the manufacturer didn't forget air conditioning. In the end, the Ferrari F40 tipped the scales at just 1,100 kg: a true featherweight.
Perfect handling, ultra-precise steering, performance at all engine speeds… The Italian car borders on perfection. And that's fitting, since this machine would be Enzo Ferrari's last creation, the one that would allow him to push the boundaries of the impossible one last time.
A legendary car that's selling for a record price
Even though the Ferrari F40 was produced and designed for the road, it's important to remember that it's a racing car. Initially limited to 400 units, its production quickly increased to 1,311, not counting a few rare models. This limited production run, coupled with Enzo Ferrari's death in 1988, not only cemented this racing car's place in history but also ignited speculation surrounding the F40. Indeed, some buyers at the time didn't hesitate to spend exorbitant sums for this legendary car. And even today, the Ferrari F40 remains a global benchmark, fetching astronomical prices at auctions.
