Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, the Aston Martin DB5 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. Its timeless elegance and James Bond connection have made it a legendary car that continues to captivate classic car enthusiasts today. Innova-Box, specialists in luxury garage design , tells its story.

History and origins of the Aston Martin DB5
The Aston Martin celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. Indeed, this legendary car made its first appearance in September 1963 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then, it has come a long way, never disappointing those who appreciate its charisma and refinement.
It's important to know that the Aston Martin DB5 is an evolution of the DB4 Series V. Designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring, it stands out for its performance, but above all for its refinement. The Aston Martin DB5 was, in fact, a true revolution in the world of luxury cars.
Produced until 1965, it was launched in two years, and 1,059 units were produced: a limited production which nevertheless had a huge impact on the automotive industry and popular culture, notably thanks to the legendary secret agent James Bond .
Similarities and differences with the DB4
In terms of design, the Aston Martin DB5 is instantly recognizable thanks to its elegant appearance and flowing lines. However, its design remains very close to its predecessor, the DB4. Typical details of the British brand are also present, such as the chrome arrow on the front wings and the inverted T-shaped grille.
What primarily distinguishes it from the DB4 is its more powerful engine. Indeed, the hood of our famous DB5 houses a 4.0-liter engine producing 286 horsepower. This allows the car to reach a top speed of 233 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8 seconds. Another new feature: the 5-speed ZF gearbox replaces the 4-speed David Brown. Electric windows, alternator, air conditioning… The DB5 is also more modern than the DB4, and its equipment is upgraded.
The impact of the Aston Martin DB5
The Aston Martin DB5 became a cultural icon, notably thanks to its appearance in the 1964 film Goldfinger, where it became the car of choice for James Bond, played by Sean Connery. Indeed, it's impossible to talk about the DB5 without thinking of its cinematic career. Moreover, the British brand hasn't hesitated to capitalize on its success with exhibitions, toy versions of the car, and more.
After its comeback in 1995 with GoldenEye and in 1997 with Tomorrow Never Dies, the Aston Martin DB5 has appeared in numerous films and influenced other works of fiction, but above all, it has captivated many stars thanks to its timeless design. Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Ralph Lauren… These are just some of the celebrities who have succumbed to the charm of the Aston Martin DB5. Today, it remains highly sought after by collectors and classic car enthusiasts. Expect to pay at least €700,000 to acquire one. For certain prestigious models, you may even have to shell out a million euros.
The evolutions of the Aston Martin DB5
While the Aston Martin was primarily offered as a coupé and convertible, it was also available on the road as a DB5 Shooting Brake by Tickford. Finding the interior space too cramped, David Brown commissioned this version in 1965 to transport his hunting equipment and dogs. Once again, this model was a success, and demand skyrocketed. Harold Radford was then entrusted with the conversion. Twelve cars were produced… at a cost premium of nearly 50% over the base price.
After two years of production, DB5 manufacturing ceased in 1965 to make way for its successor, the DB6… well, almost. Since 37 DB5 chassis remained in the factory, it was decided to build a hybrid series, a cross between the DB5 and the DB6: this became the Volante. This version featured the engine and bumpers of the DB6, and the taillights of the DB5. A rather rare, but highly sought-after, version.
The DB5: a gem for collectors
Legendary performance, iconic design, undeniable charisma… The DB5 delights classic car collectors. Its inextricable link to the world of James Bond makes it a highly coveted piece, still snapped up today. Indeed, owning a DB5 is like possessing a piece of automotive history. Leaving it in just any garage would be sheer folly.
To accommodate such a room, a custom-built garage is necessary. “Innova-Box offers bespoke solutions that will keep your DB5 safe and secure while enhancing its value ,” says Gérald Mouret, manager and founder of the concept. “ Discover all the essentials of garage design for collectors .
